We are always constantly in the war with various Video Formats when comes to POST-PRODUCTION. I guess largely due to the nature of our Jobs. Unlike TV works, we deal with all kinds of Format from DVD, blu-rays, to Streaming Videos to Hi-res Mp4, Mpegs to Beta tapes, DV tapes to Photographs in both Digital & Print format.

One major issue is CODEC (AKA compression decompression). This is a word use to describe the various film format develop by various manufacturers, Professionals over the years. Names like WMV, MPEG, MPG, JPG, MOV, MP4 etc. Of these, the most impressive is H.264 which is a standard that was used in HD broadcast in Europe today. They use this as early as the last EuroCup & WorldCup.

H.264 is an amazing compression that can be package with formats like MP4, MOV, DVB-T, WMV etc..

I still remembering playing with H.263 back then. Comparing WMV streaming compression from MOV.

We have done Digital Filming for years now. With advancement in technology, we have tested many different formats like DVC Pro, DVC pro50, HDV, HD, AVC HD, Film, etc.

Like everyone else we are very excited with the Digital SLR Filmmaking like Canon 5D mark II. Coupled with the L lenses and Tilt Shift Lenses, it open us to a new World of Filmmaking 'Through The Lens' style.

In the past, we used Film lenses Adapter (AKA D.O.F. Depth Of Field Adapter) and played with brands like P+S Technik Mini35, SG Pro, Letus Extreme, Brevis 35. Coupled that with VIdeo cameras, it gives you a new Blend of Film-like Effect which has much shallower depth and a range of lenses to create the effect and look needed.

In the next few months & year, we will still continue to use both Format, that has kept us happy with out Visual quality.

A great camera to couple with the Film Lens Adapter will be Panasonic HMC152 because of its SD CArd Aquisition, size and weight. It also have the same dynamic range, colour, look & feel as the Trusty DVX & HVX cameras.
